So it has been exactly 25 days since I laid my hands on the new Nikon D3000 DSLR camera. The camera was a birthday gift for myself. So far the experience has been good, in fact I am already looking to accessorise it with additional lens and a Tripod.
The Camera as such is great, and definitely gives good photos as compared to the Samsung P and S I had before. I still am using the 18-55 Kit lens which came along with it and though I did feel a prime lens lacking howeever, its given good pictures.
So now a few days back I read about the night time photography in one of the tutorials on You Tube, and was dying to try out what they mentioned in the same. So this weekend when I was fidgetting around with the camera, I thought of putting it to the test. So with a Tripod borrowed from a friend, I set out to take a shot in the night, 20:30 was the time when I got this one, not exactly what I was looking for but close enough. The idea was mount the camera on the tripod, set the largest (smallest number) f stop and Slowest Shutter Speed. The location was from the Terrace, there were some cars on the road which were to give me the light streaks and the light from the many flats were to be the source of the side lights. The experiment began with a f stop of 3.5 at 18mm and 10 sec exposure, which kinda gave a dark image though you could still make out the lights and the glow in the bottom of the picture, but the trees werent so clear. The second was with F3.5, 18mm and 20 sec exposure. The result was well I would say nice, good lights, bottom glow and the trees also visible. The final attempt which I made was this one with F3.5 @ 18mm and a 25 Sec exposure, I wouldnt call it a perfect shot, but I loved the way it came out. The Trees like coming out a burning inferno, the Bright Glow at the bottom of the photo giving it a firey depth effect and nicely supported by the side lights from the Flats, even the sky looked as if Lit up by the fire burning below, all this without a flash :-)
Never thought 20:30 could have so much light !!
